Welcome to our web site.

We made the huge decision some time ago, to retire at the end of 2007. Pauline has been Nursing for the last forty years and is now looking forward to a new challenge! I have been a professional photographer for most of my working life; initially in the Royal Air Force for twenty-three years and then for the last six, teaching at the Defence School of Photography in the West Midlands. A lot of people dream about giving up their job and travelling the world and we now hope to make that a reality. We have sold our house in Newport, Shropshire, and have invested in a campervan. Having been caravanners for many years and holidaying all over Europe, we have made the switch to a motorhome! It is now our intention to take a year out (a middle aged gap year?) and travel throughout Europe with no deadline to meet and no set agenda to follow.

As Sagittarians, we both have itchy feet, and have travelled far and wide including the USA and Australia, where we enjoyed a fabulous campervan holiday. Another of our passions is hill walking and our slim and healthy dog, Sam, is testament to the number of walking trips we have done.

What a party!

To say we had a great send off would be an understatement! About 120 party animals turned up to drink the Navy Club dry and dance to Dave’s band, Robbie’s in Rehab, with special guest Ed Conway, followed by an amazing set from top local band Airbag

The trip

After a brief trip to Germany at the beginning of February, we will be driving down to Spain for a couple of month’s winter sunshine and a few mountain walks. Spring will see us start our tour in Scandinavia, visiting Norway, Sweden and Denmark before crossing the Baltic into Germany. After a stopover in Berlin we intend to make our way to Prague, in the Czech Republic and then on to Vienna in Austria. One of our favourite places is Croatia, which we visited in our caravan not long after the Balkans War, and we will take our time exploring the Dalmatiner Coast, including Dubrovnik and Split. We may then carry on south towards Greece, transiting Albania and Macedonia, or take the ferry across the Adriatic to Italy, another favourite destination! Whichever we decide, early summer should see us around the foot of Italy and heading for Sicily, before crossing to Sardinia and Corsica, another great hill walking country.

Back to the mainland for an extended visit to Rome, surely one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and one that a previous weekend visit had only whetted the appetite. If you have never been to this wonderful place, you would not be disappointed. The obvious attractions of the Vatican, the Coliseum, the Trevvi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are every bit as impressive in real life as they are in the many films!

We will then be heading north, towards the South of France, passing through Monaco and other millionaire playgrounds whilst hugging the coastline till Perpignan. There is another wonderful camping destination, visited many times over the years, called Canet Plage and a few weeks on the beach should help to recharge the batteries!
